Understanding behavior
Why behavior happens, what function it serves, and how to identify what's driving a specific behavior in your child — so you can respond effectively rather than reactively.
Parent training isn't an optional add-on. It's built into every Kindaya program — because the hours between sessions matter as much as the sessions themselves.
Parent training in the context of ABA is structured, individualized coaching designed to help caregivers understand and implement the same behavioral principles their child's therapist uses during sessions. It's not a lecture — it's a practical, hands-on partnership.
Your BCBA will work with you directly, explaining why certain strategies work, demonstrating how to use them, and then observing and providing feedback as you practice them with your child. Over time, the skills become natural — and the impact on your child's progress compounds well beyond what any set number of session hours could achieve alone.
Every family we work with participates in parent training. It's not reserved for families experiencing specific challenges — it's simply the standard. Research consistently shows that children whose caregivers are actively involved in the implementation of ABA strategies make faster progress and maintain skills longer than those whose caregivers are less engaged.
Parent training is also particularly valuable during transitions: starting school, changes in routine, introduction of a new sibling, or any period when your child's environment or demands are shifting.
Parent training topics are shaped by your child's goals and your family's priorities — not a standard curriculum applied uniformly.

How to use reinforcement strategically and consistently at home — which items and activities motivate your child, how to deliver reinforcement effectively, and how to avoid common pitfalls.
Transitions are among the most challenging situations for many children with autism. We'll work with you on strategies for morning routines, mealtime, bedtime, and any transition that creates stress in your household.
How to help skills learned during therapy sessions transfer into the everyday moments where they matter — at the grocery store, at grandma's house, in the classroom, and everywhere else your child goes.
"Parent training is not about teaching parents what to do — it's about building shared understanding. When a parent understands the 'why' behind a strategy, they use it consistently, adapt it naturally, and pass that understanding on to everyone else in their child's life."
Parent training is built around your schedule and adjusted to your pace. It's collaborative by design.
We begin by asking what would make the biggest difference in your family's daily life. Parent training topics are driven by your priorities, not a fixed agenda.
You won't just be handed a handout. Your BCBA demonstrates strategies, coaches you as you try them, and gives clear, specific feedback to help you build confidence.
Parent training isn't a separate meeting on a separate day. It's integrated into your child's program — natural, accessible, and ongoing throughout the course of treatment.
We'll give you the knowledge and tools to be their best supporter too. Start with a consultation — it's free, and there's no commitment.
